Job Description Compile accurate and complete job cost estimates based on scope of work and design information provided to ensure that projects will be profitable. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION (to include, but not limited to): · Discuss with Business Development Representative and Chief Estimator and agree on due date and time for the estimate based on current workload and previous experience. · Complete the estimate by the agreed upon date and time. · Estimate more than one project at a time, if required, to get the best possible use out of the day. · Draft sketches as completely as needed to assist in the estimating process and for future information regarding that estimate. · Send drawings, specifications and any other pertinent information to possible subcontractors within two days of starting the estimate, sooner if necessary. · Contact enough subcontractors and suppliers to ensure a minimum of 3 bids. Use plug numbers only as a last resort. · Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers on the day the information was to arrive to them to confirm their receipt of that information and to clear up any questions they may have. · Perform material take-offs in a timely manner thereby not delaying the gathering of pricing for those take-offs and thus holding up the estimate. · Estimate the project using the estimate templates, information pertaining specifically to that project, published information and subcontractor bids. · Travel to the proposed job site on turnkey projects to obtain subcontractor and vendor commitments, and to clarify the estimate requirements or assist the Business Development Representative in obtaining information for the project. · Keep in contact with suppliers and subcontractors on a daily basis to ensure their delivery of pricing and information in order to meet the estimate due date. · Assist the Business Development Representative in the writing of the specifications and the Scopes of Work. · Prior to the quotes being delivered to the customer, review the estimate, the specifications and pricing together with the Business Development Representative and Chief Estimator, and if needed, the proposed Project Manager to confirm a continuity of information. · After project is sold, some changes may occur and these changes should be estimated within two days of receiving the information. · Discuss with the Chief Estimator and management of the company any desired or required changes to the estimate templates and after approval make those changes and check the template for accuracy. · Review the final costs of the sold jobs for comparison to the estimate and for future projects. · Participate and cooperate with every department while enthusiastically advocating teamwork and frequent communication. · Perform any other function as required or assigned to complete the projects and service the customers. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: · Knowledge of construction principles and codes. · Knowledge of obtaining and applying construction costs. · Ability to read blueprints. · Ability to visualize the end product. · Computer skills, including but not limited to the use of Excel, Word, Outlook and Windows software. · A basic knowledge of and ability to use Algebra and Geometry. · Good verbal and written communication skills. · Good English skills. Able to speak, read and understand. · Confidentiality required. · Ability to make independent decisions. · Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time. · Ability to successfully carry out job responsibilities in a stressful work environment. · Interact well with other employees, clients, subcontractors and vendors in a professional manner. · Possess a good work ethic. · Willingness to travel. · Must be able to work overtime as needed to accomplish the job. · Flexibility. JOB MAY REQUIRE: · Climbing stairs. · Repetitive motion (to include, but not limited to): sitting for long periods of time, working at a computer and typing for long periods of time. Wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, work boots, gloves, etc 16 Trade Divisions Estimating.
